In a nutshell: Agnieszka Radwańska is a lithe, fleet-footed, crafty player who drives her opponents to madness with an endless variety of shots delivered in unexpected patterns and from any spot on the court. With her small frame and delicate style, she favors strategy and speed over power. When she’s on her game, she’s a joy to watch, bounding lightly from one end of the court to the other, splashing a rainbow of shots across the canvas, creating a tennis masterpiece.
The lack of force, particularly on serve, makes it difficult for her to consistently take out other top players. Still, with a high ranking of #2 and 20 titles to her name, including the 2015 WTA Finals, she was considered a contender for more big wins throughout her career. Fans held out hope for an eventual Slam is at Wimbledon, where her playing style would have the most devastating effect, but unfortunately she never quite reached that pinnacle.
One of the highlights of her career came in the 2012 Wimbledon final, however, against the legendary Serena Williams. Overwhelmed in the 1st set to a 1-6 scoreline, Aga whipped up a phenomenal 2nd set, doggedly battling for each point, rallying herself to a 7-5 victory. Unable to maintain that stratospheric level of play, she fell 2-6 in the third, but it remains an inspirational performance.
Aga announced her retirement from tennis in November of 2018, but thankfully has promised to keep her ties to the sport she so excelled in.
