A Look Back at January 2016 — Stunning Upsets, the German Uprising, and Bad Tennis Omens
Tennis fans were not prepared for the insane Gilles Simon / Novak Djokovic match whose combo of brilliance and disaster quickly overwhelmed us…
Simon gets the pass over a prone Nole…that is amazing….lolol.

It takes unimaginable patience to play the way Simon does. You can’t help but admire him for it… right after you punch him in the face.

GASP. Another drop fail…5-0 Simon

At the same time, Aga Radwanska was locked in a tense battle with another of those feisty Germans, Anna-Lena Friedsam…
Well. Friedsam bullying the hell out of Aga right now.

It’s a shame the boys went on so long, people should have seen that Aga / Friedsam set…what incredible tennis…using every inch of court.

A match that will likely haunt Gilles forever…

Novak agrees with some wag who yells “no more dropshots” – “You’re ABSOLUTELY right…”

It wasn’t the day for scrappy contenders, as Aga eventually righted the ship in her match as well…
Aga is pissed…in a good way. Quick hold 4-1!

After dishing out a 2nd set breadstick, Aga was down 2-5 in the decider, until she sent a flurry of lobs and droppers at a physically-declining Friedsam, whose body broke down before she could close out the match.

Things went awry for former Australian Open champion Stan Warinka, however, when he faced off against Federer’s Brisbane nemesis, Milos Raonic. Much angst ensued.
Stan bounces racquet, leaves it on ground about 15 feet from his bench. “You just stay there and think about what you’ve done.” 😛

Interviewed @stanwawrinka on the eve of the @AustralianOpen. Said he had just got a cold – looks like it’s really affecting his energy now

This seems like a good time for me to start nervously eating potato chips.

Stan’s BHs not being winners is incredibly disturbing.

Though Stan fought back from a potential straight-set loss, the Rocket — who ultimately passed Stan for the #3 spot at the end of 2016 — triumphed in 5 sets.

We consoled ourselves with Stan’s epic fighting spirit and a hopeful clinging to cosmic patterns that turned out to be not entirely off-the-mark…
No worries. First AO ’14…next FO ’15… clearly @stanwawrinka is just keeping to his schedule for Wimby ’16.
