We caught a bit of Vasek Pospisil’s practice last year in Cincinnati, as he was working on his mad skills up at net. The joy of volley practice is that we photogs get a chance for more close-ups. We share them with you here in our first installment of 15 Love: 10 photos, 5 quotes, lots of love.
Our first Vashy-related quote comes from an interview with his doubles partner and fellow countryman, Daniel Nestor. Asked about the chance of playing mixed doubles at the 2016 Olympics with Eugenie Bouchard, the following exchange occurred:
Pospisil: “No, I think that’ll be you, playing mixed doubles there.”
Nestor: “I don’t think that’s possible. It’s going to be either you or Milos…but I guess it’s up to her.
Pospisil: “The better looking guy always plays, so it’s you.”
Nestor [to interviewer]: “It’s Vasek, for sure.”
“Vasek has pretty unbelievable hands. He’s able to get us out of some trouble with serve and volleys, sticking volleys. He moves very well at the net and understands doubles obviously very well.”
–Jack Sock, enthusing about his doubles partner’s strengths. [Interview here.]
“I’m extremely professional and maybe detach myself from the others a little bit and do my own thing.”
–Vasek Pospisil, on the difficulty of maintaining friendships on the competitive tour (until he met Jack, of course). [Interview here.]
“I did not check out his complexion… [Grin.] …Obviously he’s, let’s say, a little bit more perky, and happy, and excited, so it’s good to see.”
–Milos Raonic, asked if fellow Canadian Vashy’s “rosy glow” had increased after his Wimby doubles win with American Jack Sock. [Video here.]
“Whether everyone is cheering for me or against me or if it’s equal, you know, when there is a big crowd and when they are into it, it’s always more enjoyable for everybody.”
–Vasek Pospisil, on playing crowd favorite del Potro at the 2015 Miami Open. [Interview here.]
