Caroline Wozniacki Channels Clint Eastwood To Win Tennis Matches
This is Caroline Wozniacki, women’s tennis player, former World Number 1 and currently ranked 10th. She’s kinda the Miss Mary Sunshine of tennis, always ready with a big cheery grin and a goofy joke–whether it lands or misfires, no matter. She’s the gal who dances with crazy mascots in Brazil…
…and smiles her way through points in an exo, even when she’s losing to Maria Sharapova. Again.
But there’s something that happens to cheery Caro during a regulation tennis match, especially during her serve. She lines up, takes one look at her opponent, and suddenly…
she’s this guy:
Which brings to mind the Clint Eastwood movie “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” After all, Wozza’s game has often been described as one of more defense than offense, of tracking down balls and forcing errors rather than pummeling a ball down the opponent’s throat.
“You see in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns…
It’s a style that works for Miss Sunshine, aka Caro Eastwood. It seems to be working even better these days as she employs some more aggressive maneuvers, some forehand winners (huzzah!) and net play.
She’s already got the ‘tude of a dangerous woman on the tennis court. With a smoking forehand she can go all Dirty Harry on us.
“So it’s the tiebreak and I know what you’re thinking. ‘Did she just get her sixth point or was it only five?’ Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kind of lost track myself.”
“So are you going to totally crank on that return and risk sending it long, possibly costing you the TB and the match? Or are you going to push it back into the center of the court where I can work the point and drive you to the brink of despair and I’ll mostly likely win anyway?
“You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”
So beware, those who mock the moonballs and defensive strategy. One day you might be staring down this on the court:
And you won’t be laughing then.
