Caroline Wozniacki in Cincinnati — Always in Motion
Caroline Wozniacki is known for her excellent defense and retrieval skills, chasing down every ball no matter how crazily far away it may seen. Watching her play matches live, you really get a sense of how incredibly fast she moves, how her feet are constantly in motion, how sharply she can change direction and stretch and twist her body to get to a shot.
Because she treats every single point as important, attacking each ball with energy, she’s a joy to photograph. While some players have a steady technique and only show you a few basic forehand and backhand shots, you never know precisely what Caro is going to do out there. So you don’t get bored.
For photographers still working on honing their craft, however, all that movement can be tricky. Wozniacki is tough to capture on film with clarity–often her body is going in several directions at once, so something being blurred seems inevitable. We tried to choose those pictures where the blur conveyed that awesome speed, rather than just: bad photo. We hope you agree.
Our favorite Polish-Danish princess is lovely to capture in stillness as well, and we’ve shared some moments that highlight her personality, her thoughtful pauses on court, her beauty and, of course, her trademark Stella McCartney fashion. Early in the week we caught Caroline on the practice courts, working up a sweat in her turquoise Adidas gear.

Like we said, lots of movement, and inevitable but kinda cool blur. And great legs.
You probably recognize Caro’s typical posture on return of serve, bouncing and full of energy as she waits for the point to start. You can see the ruffles on her skirt fluttering with her movement.
Similar to Aga Radwanska’s behind-the-baseline squat shot, Caro’s not afraid to get down low to keep that ball in play.
A fist pump…and probably a “Come onnnn!”
