TennisInsideOut.com presents the BOX SEATS spin-off of THE NIGHT SESSION, where we discuss some of the larger issues in the world of tennis. Andreen of SoleyTennisTravels.com and the Realztenisfanz podcast joins host Valerie to talk about the new $25 million building at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Val has lots of questions about what this incredibly posh tower means for the ever-evolving Cincy tournament, and Andreen brings her extensive knowledge of the tennis tour to offer her perspective on how this new “all-inclusive experience” has become the model for all events and what that means for tennis fans.

Recorded on Thursday, August 30, the podcast also has an unexpectedly prescient convo about Federer’s surprise losses, as well as the need for tournaments to deal with extreme weather conditions due to climate change as well as the ever-longer matches the players endure.

THE NIGHT SESSION: BOX SEATS PODCAST 4 — THE NEW CINCY SOUTH BUILDING AND THE FUTURE OF TENNIS

0:01 Val and Andreen open up with a discussion about Fed matches that turned out to be extremely relevant, considering the Maestro’s surprise loss to John Millman at the US Open this week.

Val then presents the first topic of the podcast, the new mega-million dollar building of suites and premium seating that went up in time for this year’s Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati. Is this the future of tennis? Is it, in fact, tennis at all? Your hosts discuss the trend in live tennis events to create a “tiered experience” for those buying in at different price levels, and what this means for true fans of the sport (especially the poor ones!).

HOW ABOUT SOME MORE SHADED SEATING?

33:25 The ladies kick off with the second topic of the podcast, whether the whole “get a roof!” movement should apply to every tournament, and why large events like Cincy in particular need to start accommodating visitors with more shade, shelter, and climate-controlled areas to combat potentially extreme conditions and long days of tennis action.

THE TENNIS CARNIVAL

54:26 As Roger would say, we need a clown for this circus! Val introduces the final segment, about the new agenda at Cincy to create a more complete “entertainment experience” rather than just focusing on the tennis alone. The discussion branches out into other areas of marketing for tennis, what the sport’s leaders are doing wrong, what could be a good idea, and why that whole “sex sells” thing shouldn’t be so taboo.

Thank you for listening!! Once again, please RT and share if you enjoyed, the more listeners the merrier!
