What Inappropriate Things Roger Federer Might Tweet Next

Roger Federer, after years of resistance, has finally embraced The Twitter. Fed fans have been delighted at getting a peek into the Maestro’s daily life and, especially through special #AskRF sessions, a hint of both his corny and his more snarky humor. As he’s progressed with his social media mad skillz, he’s graduated to adorkable overkill on hashtags and sly selfies taken at press conferences.

Treading the social media waters has its dangers, though, and the international star has recently made some inadvertent faux pas with his incessant hashtaggery. It’s true, even the most peRFect of Swiss players can have an off day. Or his PR intern can, or maybe it was Michael Russell’s publicist.

If you’re not familiar with this particular Beyonce track, you might not have even caught this one. “Surfboard” is from the song’s lyrics, of course, but she’s riding a totally different wave than the one you might think of first. We’re guessing Rog may not have listened to how explicit those lyrics get, or known how “#Surfboard” is generally used online.

Not a big deal, really, and the worst you’re going to get is “Oh Rog, you naughty boy.”

His more recent gaffe caused a small dust-up on Twitter, however. At first glance, he seemed to have borrowed a phrase from “Full Metal Jacket” that, in American culture, can have mildly inappropriate to pretty offensive connotations, depending upon who you ask.

Obviously no one thinks Federer had any desire to offend anyone, but he might want to bookmark the Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia, so he can vet his future hashtags for an international audience. Otherwise, aside from those “rad discotheque” mentions, we might be seeing tweets like this next:

We kid out of love, Roger. Accidents happen to the best of us.
