16 Days ‘Til Cincy — Roger Federer Press Conference
It’s 16 days ’til Cincy and we’re revisiting a Roger Federer press conference. These photos are from early in the tournament, before Rog had even played a match. Without any Cincinnati tennis to discuss, the topics varied from racquet styles to USO crowds to how he played in the Canada finals against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Federer press conferences are generally interesting even when the questions are kind of scattershot, since The Maestro tends to give thoughtful answers as much as possible. Sometimes he’s funny, sometimes he’s a little sarcastic, and you’re generally not going to get one of those “I just have to play my game” kind of stock answers.
We’ve selected some photos from the press conference that show a range of expressions and…quite frankly, levels of adorableness. One thing that’s instantly noticeable is that Rog is generally serious with American press and a lot more relaxed and jovial with the Swiss/French press. Home team advantage, apparently.
Haha…Rog says his racquet comes in three versions…his exact one and two lighter versions for…”younger people and..weaker people”.. 😉

Rog says Jo didn’t really have time to work his baseline game because Rog himself was missing too early for it to make a diff in Canada. — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) August 12, 2014
Roger talked about hopeful expectations for Cincy, then joked a bit that Tsonga going out didn’t make him feel great. pic.twitter.com/CeFYopzjRU

Rog was referring to the fact that Tsonga went out in his first match at Cincy to Mikhail Youzhny. If the guy who just beat you in a Masters final goes out early, it’s tough not to wonder how you’re going to fare. As we learned later, you can fare a lot better.
Rog said Wimby crowd clap consistently thru match. USO crowd waits until they’re impressed…puts pressure on player. pic.twitter.com/mc00pcJMQ6 — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) August 12, 2014
@TennisInsideOut “potential to go wild” is Federer’s code talk for “drunk.”

No pressure at all, with a bunch of recording devices one inch from your face…
