Switzerland: The 2014 Davis Cup Journey, Italy — The Angry Eyes Have It
Most peeps had expected Seppi to play for Italy, but Roger’s first match was against the in-form Simone Bolelli. Determined to get the semifinal win for Switzerland, Rog showed up on court with some serious intensity.
Ohhh, come in to Rog up one set and with his Angry Eyes in. #hubba — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
There was a bit of a theme…
I am so turned on by Fed right now. #AngryEyes — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
Bolelli was playing beautifully, and Rog was being his usual Swiss self on break points. The second set seemed doomed to another TB, until..
There were no gimmes in this match. Rog and Sev were still very serious on the changeover at 5-4, Rog preparing to serve for the 2nd set.
The single game turned into a huge battle…
Hot damn, Fed, you crazy lucky skillful bastard…haha…

Fed just wiped his face on his shoulder. This is getting intense. — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
DRIVE VOLLEY!!! Set 2 to FED!!!
— Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
The Swiss net helped Fed nab an early break in the third set, but there was no steamrolling happening here. Bolelli began drawing more Fed errors, and the Maestro had to fight hard and dig himself out of his own service games to maintain his lead.
Fed is seething. This guys is good-looking, has elegant tennis, powerful shots, and he just.won’t.go.away. — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
(Please ignore the typo above. Or just give me a Brooklyn accent or something that makes “this guys” sound normal. 😉 )
Fed worked his way up to 5-4, and when Bolelli netted what could have been a sublime passing shot, the Swiss man had MP.
And Rog…DFs. Crowd giggles.

Oops. Well, he can fix that.
Big serve down the T, finishing FH, and Fed wins!!! — Tennis Inside Out (@TennisInsideOut) September 12, 2014
Well-played, both gentlemen. Ambitious, purposeful hitting, generally sustained, slightly more by Federer. 1st two sets were razor’s edges.
